Dear Sirs:
\JAbout 11:45 on April 5, 1977 I received a call from the service
manager (I beleive his name was Rudi) at H&E in Palo Alto.
The major content of that conversation can be paraphrased as follows:
"H&E was trying to do me a favor by installing the bolt in the fan
clutch. The fan clutch (he claimed) was out of warrantee when they
received the car and many people don't want to spend $90 (plus labor)
for a new clutch."
He was right on one point: paying $90.00 for a new clutch is not
pleasant. However the clutch was \F2not\F1 out of warrantee, and
before service personnel do favors like that they should \F2ask\F1.
I had told the H&e person who wrote the service ticket that the part was
still warranteed and had even taped a note to the dashboard stating
that the part was new; as a last resort they could have called me.
He also claimed there was no way that Allison could have
known that the head bolts were loose since it is unlikely that they
checked the torque before removing the head.
He claimed that most of my complaints involved Allison BMW
and refused to admit that H&E did anything less than the required
amount on their 96000 mile service.
I am writing this down to keep your organization informed on want
I am experiencing.
